Surely the police and council have powers to close a beach?

All these idiotic morons coming to our beaches etc & sure as hell some going to bring the virus to wherever they are, most won't even know they have it till it's too late & whoever they've been in contact with can't be traced because they are strangers sharing a beach with them & crowded together like sardines in a tin. Sometimes the human race makes me wish I was a alien.:e vil:

Hi

Both the Police and the Council have powers to do so.

Unfortunately neither have enough staff to do so.

Perhaps they should recruit local volunteers with yellow jackets & megaphones?

Re: Coronavirus: Risk in UK lockdown easing too soon, warn scientists

Well I am starting to hear regular ambulance sirens again. I don't think it helpful to have official announcements that make people feel it's safe to go back to a normal life. I have just found out another friend has had long term effects of the virus. He was ill in March but now he is having what seem to be relapses affecting his hands and he's worried about what happens next. So that's two people I know who are relatively young (one in their twenties and this friend who is just past 50 with no underlying conditions) and they are having relapses despite not ending up in intensive care. Quality of life can be affected in the longer term and who knows what it can damage and weaken.

Durdle Door beach, near Lulworth in Dorset

Getting there:

Once there:

Then:

Four injured jumping 200ft into sea

Beach-goers cram together as emergency services respond:

How many in that "herd" have the virus and passed it on .....

Dorset Council announced this morning Durdle Door and neighbouring Lulworth Cove were closed throughout Sunday, and roads would be blocked.

Coronavirus: Raab defends relaxation of lockdown rules

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52867240
The foreign secretary has defended the government easing of lockdown measures in England from Monday, despite the country's Covid-19 alert system indicating high levels of transmission.

Dominic Raab said England is "transitioning" from level four, when there should be enforced social distancing measures, to level three, when they can start to be relaxed.

He said the approach is "cautious".

Some scientists advising ministers have voiced concerns about easing the rules.

Mr Raab told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show the government had "taken evidence from scientists" and has met the five tests it said were needed to relax restrictions.
The five tests .....

The tests and how they have each been met, are set out below:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics...ests-lockdown/

Making sure NHS can cope

The Prime Minister has announced the country is now meeting the first test of protecting the NHS’s ability to cope during the pandemic.

On May 26, 475 people were admitted to hospital with Covid-19, down from a peak of 3,121 on April 2.

Death rate

The second test was to see a "sustained and consistent" fall in the daily death rate.

Mr Johnson said on Thursday the Government is “confident” that we have moved beyond the peak of the death rate, which now stands at an average of 256 deaths a day, down from 943 on April 14.

Infections

The third test was for reliable data from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) to show that the rate of infection was decreasing to manageable levels across the board.

Over the last seven days there was an average of 2,312 cases, down from 5,066 in the first week of May, he said.

Protective gear and testing

The fourth test was to be confident that the range of operational challenges, including testing capacity and PPE, are in hand, with supply able to meet future demand.

On Wednesday, PHE carried out 119,587 tests compared to around 12,000 at the start of April, he added.

On the issue of PPE, Mr Johnson said the Government has now signed contracts with more than 100 suppliers around the world, as well as with companies in the UK who will produce two billion PPE items.

Mr Johnson said the Government is now comfortable the fourth test has been met and they will start to rebuild stocks of PPE.

Second wave

But it seems the fifth test – of being confident that any changes do not risk another peak – presented the biggest challenge.

To avoid more exponential growth of the virus in the UK, the rate of infection - or 'R' value - must be kept below one. That means each person who catches the virus infects fewer than one person.

Mr Johnson said that a “package” of measures have been designed by Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief scientific advisor and Prof Whitty, the chief medical officer.

The package includes the reopening of schools in phases, relaxing some social contact measures, and allowing non-essential retail stores to reopen while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
It's that second wave that worries me - people socialising and infecting/reinfecting each other with all caution abandoned .....
