Re: MPs Pay Rise

Hi

MPs are Public Sector Employees. paid out of the Public Purse.

They should take the hit along with Nurses etc.

They should have a 20% cut in numbers and a Pay and Pension Freeze.

Re: MPs Pay Rise

I seem to remember reading 4 or 5 years ago that the Tories were planning to change the constituency boundaries to reduce the number of MPs and to make the political balance more even between them and the Liebour lot. This was then put into abeyance because Mrs May lost her majority in 2017 and she knew it wouldn't get through the HoC.

Re: MPs Pay Rise

I believe toilet paper might be one of the things in a basket of household goods and grocery items that COULD be claimed for.

This is an automatic pay rise as set out and agreed with IPSA in 2015 supposedly to keep MPs wages in line with public worker salaries.

Obscene, especially when most, if not all of them have other incomes besides.

Isn't this kind of decisions to be expected from a tory government? Or didn't you realise what you were voting for last december?

I think you'll find that MPs of all political persuasions voted to agree that pay rise.

The reality is, of course, that MPs are not awarding themselves anything. They have no power over their pay. They have not voted on their pay and they will not vote on their pay. This is because they contracted decisions on pay out to an independent body, IPSA, to make these decisions. One of the reasons for setting up IPSA was so that MPs could not vote on their pay and be accused of being selfish, or be too frightened of being accused of being selfish to vote on a pay rise, even if they believed that to be the right thing to do.
