She was hot because she was a `sweater` - known throughout her career as the Sweater Girl despite her being a fine actress in her own right having starred in such films as The Postman Always Rings Twice and Imitation of Life. She had a turbulent private life having gone through seven short-lived marriages, the longest one being for four years. Her fourteen year-old daughter stabbed one of her lovers to death.
