Owls!

Just been to bring the milk in and heard two tawny owls having a grand conversation. One was some distance away - possibly in the chestnut trees along the boreen at the bottom of the road - the other sounded really close. I crept round the corner of the house to see/hear if he were in my garden - just as he/she swooped down from my roof! Scared me witless!

Do you hear Cuckoo's where you are Meg?
I used to love hearing those but haven't heard one for several years now.

We get them over the house here, the Tawny owl male calls & the female answers him, if she feels like it that is. Often he has to call several times before she'll bother. He is usually the one nearest to me when I hear them. Still haven't managed to spot either though.

Re: Owls!

I used to have a pet barnowl, it was great, I reared it from a chick, taught it to fly and all kinds. I used to really enjoy sitting in the garden with it, all my neighbours loved it, sadly I had to get rid of it after the weird old bloke moved in next door and tried damaging it's cage to let it out as he said it's screeching in the early hours was annoying him, it was only screeching because he was prowling about throwing rubbish in other peoples gardens.

Re: Owls!

All I hear in my garden is noisy magpies and wood pigeons. I'd love to see an owl round here, they are beautiful creatures.
