How long to defrost meat in warm water?

I was just informed that defrosting meat in the micro-wave oven can lead to food poisoning.

So I've got 2 one-kilogram packages of frozen ground beef weighed down in a sink full of hot water. Any idea how long this might take? I'll replace the water as it cools of course.

Hmmm .... I thought you could only thaw frozen meat in cold water

I usually thaw meat in the microwave on defrost. Either that or in a bowl of cold water & have never been poisoned yet

Definitely de-frost in cold water.

I regularly defrost meat in the microwave. I think if it was dangerous then microwave ovens would not have a defrost cycle and would not give instructions and times for defrosting meat. If I were you I would just go on doing it the way you always did.

Definately thaw in clod water and change the water every 20mins, it could take abot 2 hrs.

Annie darlin' - if you take the meat to be cooked out of the freezer overnight and allow it to defrost naturally - it will be fine to cook the following day.
