Weren't we lucky to have parents who read and introduced us to the joys of it? My dad gave me an astronomy book and took me outside at night to learn the constellations; always had books on birds, animals, butterflies, etc.

My parents always read to us every night when we went to bed. We were very lucky and they do say that when you read to your child it does help to develop their reading skills as they get older.

I was having a senior moment about one I couldn't recall: Swallows and Amazons series, Arthur Ransome. And Call of the Wild, and White Fang.

Re: What were your favourite books as a child?

I have never cared for fiction as an adult except for a few wonderful novels.

As a child I did and loved the Nancy Drew mysteries and I've heard they are coming out once again.
