Re: Greta Thunberg ... again

I have lived in the tropics and seen the deforestation of the rainforest .
The bbc didn’t show me that .

Re: Greta Thunberg ... again

It amazes me that normally rational people who believe in science suddenly don't accept peer reviewed climate science and blame it on the BBC.

I am still waiting for the first person to call for their aromatherapist after a road accident, everybody suddenly believes in science then.

For all intents and purposes it is.

I think that you'll find that was a view promoted by the Catholic church that also maintained that the sun orbited the earth and came down like a ton of skunk excrement on anyone who suggested otherwise.

Re: Greta Thunberg ... again

Okay Muddy, Bruce and Todger, let's assume the doom mongers (especially the charming Greta) are right about man's involvement in climate change....Can you imagine how futile and ridiculous the struggle will be to change anything.

Everything we eat, wear, drive, watch, listen to, live in, write on, crap in and even walk on is manufactured and takes something from the planet....

And if this isn't enough to scupper the whole shebang, we, the common people, do not run the world......This is done by the few super rich who are all powerful....Just look how hard it's been to exit the EU....

If there are no bucks in it or control, there will be no interest by few...
They are probably thinking what is the use to us of all those poor souls anyway. We could build AI machines to replace them.....And reduce their numbers to take the pressure off the planet.....

Wait a minute........
But how do we do that......Set male against female, religion against religion, politics against politics, gender against gender, country against country etc, and they will do the culling themselves.......

Re: Greta Thunberg ... again

Here's an idea.......
The rich B'stards can cull the human race but keep a few alive to build and service their machines.....So I'll be okay, I'm an engineer.....
They could base their civilization on the way Ants have survived far longer than us humans.....
The higherarchy would be the Queen....Only perfect quality stock would be produced which would reduce the need for a NHS...Poor quality souls would be terminated at birth...

The food gatherers would be farmers to tend the land and produce fresh food.

The industrialists who produce steel and other products.

The Administrators who would make sure everything is co-ordinated and runs to schedule.

Wait a minute, barring one or two points........Isn't it like that now?

Reducing polution by mankind can be done, indeed must be done but it won't come easy. Our way of life has caused us to be where we are and so it's our way of life that will have to change.

Arguments based on whataboutism are worse than invalid.

Everything that everybody does never mind every nation is affecting the environment and so saying what's the point when other countries are doing nothing falls at the first hurdle.

There's an old Yiddish proverb that says that a journey of a thousand miles starts with just one missed menstrual cycle - or something like that anyway.

But what could we do, even as individuals?

Well to begin with before rejecting our involvement in what is a huge change in our environment in a horrifyingly short time on a geological scale examine all available published evidence from both pro and anti schools of thought.

Would it be worth opening a thread about global climate change on which to compare and contrast what is being published on this most complex subject of all?
