Sorry precious but if I can read so could longdogs have done. It's a very long book with a decent story could have been cut easily in half and still been a good story. Like some long series of books often they could tell the story in two or three books and not made us buy 15 !

I'm on no one's side precious none of us are perfect and occasionally a wrong word is said. I try not to fantasise about violence but I cannot promise it has never happened.

Animal Farm

Reading books like this helps us reflect on our place in the world. Are we on the right track? How can we learn from the mistakes of the characters in those books? The importance of choosing a moral code to live by. The meaning of our lives. Reading the classics gives nutrition to the soul. Like going to a classy restaurant. Reading books like Mills and Boon is like eating at Mcdonalds. Escapism. Our soul slowly dies from lack of care.

Ive still got important books on my bucket list like Huxley's Brave New World. We are never too old to grow both intellectually and spiritually. Whilst ive still got my precious eyesight I will continue in this vein. Lord have mercy!
Like to? Yes.
But need to?

Re: Do we really need to read the classics?

I love Classical Russian Books.

Also Books by Ernest Hemingway.
A modern author, brilliant writing about his experiences in Wars in Spain and Italy.

To Have and Have Not.
Farewell to Arms.
The Old Man and the SEA.

Also Books by Ayn Rand
Her philosophy is Objectivism.

The Fountainhead is about an young Architect who is true to his ideals and would rather starve than design buildings with old fashioned Doric and Greek Columns that are no longer are in keeping with modern America.

What is a classic? Who decides what is and what isn't?

Good point. I have read, and enjoyed, many books.
I particularly liked those by Kyle Onstott and Lance Horner.
Classics? IDK
