I'd rather see the Beaufort Hunt charging through my garden.

... trampled the dahlias, maybe.

But these lovely creatures don't kill cats, don't crap on lawns randomly. It's all very civilised & disciplined.

Until they scent a fox - then they become a single minded, blood lusting mob!

I am ashamed to say that I have - when I was very much younger and knew no better. The chase was exhilarating - the kill was barbaric! Wouldn't do it now if you paid me.

I never rode with the hunt. But, as a child, was excited to see them come across our fields. I never saw the kill, the fox gets away nearly every time. They say if the fox doesn't outwit the hounds it's because it's old or sick.

I think they are beautiful to look at but I hate them. One got in my aviary and killed all my birds apart from the finches.
We were devastated as we thought it was a secure aviary but it found it's way in. It bit everyone of the birds heads off, didn't even kill them to eat!

Re: No stray dogs in Holland

Best to stay indoors ,OGF.

I have a foxes den in my garden. It's been there all the years I have , i.e. 20 yrs . I have seen cubs come out to play only on one occasion , but have seen bit's of play things strewn all over the garden at different times.
Last week was a piece of horse hoof, obviously from the stable behind.
We do see Mr or Mrs Fox at times during daylight, my daughter spotted one sitting a couple of yards away from her one night, when she sat out in the dark, and I have had one attempt to get into my kitchen.
They make a noise during mating season but other than that , no problems.
I can't say I'm happy with them there, as it contributes to the increase in fox numbers every year, but council won't do anything to move them on, and we are semi-rural, so there they will stay and yes, I agree urban foxes are a problem now. They need to step up before the problem gets completely out of hand. Catching foxes is not so easy as dogs, and poisoning them en mass, is not easy either or possible .
