My friend was telling me she went for a walk with her daughter and she was approaching an elderly lady so out of respect my friend and her daughter gave her a wide berth only to be have verbal abuse thrown at them. she was really annoyed that my friend had distanced herself. Damned if you do, damned if you don't springs to mind.
