Re: Why Do Older People Love Fish And Chips?
Fish & Chips, just after the war, was about as much as we could get (or afford).
Cod in proper batter, chips in the same (paper) bag loaded with salt & vinegar.
Used to tear the corner off the paper bag and pour the vinegar straight into my mouth!
Wonderful.
That was when we had our own trawlers, going up and down to the North Cape.
Cheap & good. That was all long before they started messing with what you could put in your batter and well before all those S&K Pies, Chinese chippies (effin else?") appeared on the scene.
Rationing was still around. Choices were nowhere like they are today.
Oh! and some churches didn't like people to eat meat on a Friday!
