Ladybirds

Has anyone else had an influx of ladybirds (bugs). We have had clouds of them today. All different sorts.

I thought it was just at the park but it was the same at home. It must have been the warm sunshine waking them up!

Re: Ladybirds

You were seeing swarming behavior. Ladybugs do that in the Autumn, they're looking for a place to shelter during the Winter months where they can hibernate. Sheds, outbuildings, your house!!

LOL, I am a source of all sorts of weird information, merz! At one point in my youth I wanted to be an entomologist.

Funnily enough I have seen less of them this year than in other years and we live in a rural area!

Re: Ladybirds

It must have been a big swarm DM! It wasn't a pleasant experience, the poor delivery man was waving his arms around like a windmill and ended up breaking his sunglasses!

There were lots of different colours, I have never seen anything like it, they were probably harlequin ladybirds which are killing off our native species.

Not very pleasant to have in your home, they have yellow blood which stains and when they die they smell!

Re: Ladybirds

I always have thought ladybirds are good to have in the garden and we still have a few around on the plants, particularly the roses (eating the aphids I suppose), but we have had nothing like a swarm. Did you know that ladybirds can bite or nip ?
