UK passes 40,000 coronavirus deaths

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52925716

The UK reports 357 more deaths to become only only the second country to report more than 40,000 coronavirus deaths, according to the latest government figures.

Only the US, with more than 108,000 deaths, has recorded a greater loss of life in the pandemic so far.

Italy, previously Europe's worst-hit country, has recorded 33,600 deaths from those who tested positive for the virus. the world to pass 40,000.
That's a dreadful milestone to reach and a searing indictment of the government's shambolic reaction to the pandemic .....

What will the next milestone be - 50,000, 75,000, 100,000 .....

Probably, once all of the beach goers and other people who have been gathering in crowds start getting symptoms.

The deaths don't seem to be going down much each day. Was it Kate Garraway whose husband has been in intensive care for weeks?

Indeed .....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-52933404

TV presenter Kate Garraway has said it is "a miracle" her husband is still alive after his "extraordinary battle" with the "evil" coronavirus.

Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Garraway confirmed her partner Derek Draper was put into an induced coma with the virus, nearly 10 weeks ago.

The broadcaster said it had felt more like 10 years, but that she was "grateful that he's still here".

She confirmed he is now free of the virus but in a critical condition.
It's all very well for some people to boast of "miracle" recoveries but, for others, recovery will take months, if not years, and their lives will never be the same again ......

The UK death rate of the 1918 pandemic was around 228,000 and that was with a smaller population.

But they didn't have Boris..

We are constantly reminded of how we are beating the virus and how we will meet again and things will get back to normal; but for that to happen, it's as though we have to forget about all those that have died. As you say Omah, some people's lives will never be the same.

It will not be those, but who they pass it onto, probably.

A shocking statistic. I'm afraid I have to agree with your assessment over your govs response. Please dont ease restrictions while these deaths continue.
