Re: renewal car insurance

Probably best to go on one of the comparison sites such as

Compare The Market

Re: renewal car insurance

Hi, Susan;

Funnily enough, I've just been going through the same exercise.

Of all the comparison sites, the following one is somehow cheaper...

https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance

I found identical quotations on this site that were upto £50 cheaper than the Go Compare site.

Everything can be done on-line or via 0800 numbers.

Good Luck.

Re: renewal car insurance

I don't use price comparison sites they are a con and get paid commission, who pays for that I wonder .

Insead I go to the websites of a number of reputable companies and get a quote then play them off aginst each other to get the lowest 'like-for-like' quote.

I am with John Lewis at the moment. Their price was surprisingly competitive.

ETA don't forget many companies offer a 10% + discount for 'new online customers' so it is worth moving around each year to get that discount.

Re: renewal car insurance

I've been with the NFU for many years, they were good to me and acted quickly when my Escort got smashed up on my drive.
I've still got my full protected no claims, and full breakdown recovery, and even non-starting from my driveway.
Like everything else though, it is getting dearer and dearer each year. I always intend looking round for better deals, but keep forgetting until it's too late.

Re: renewal car insurance

No insurance company or comparison site will have the monopoly on cheap prices, there are far too many variables which can be viewed differently by different companies.

The commission paid to comparison sites comes from the Insurance companies not the public.

Shop around every year - many insurers offer a low price to new customers then jack up the renewal hoping we are too lazy to check elsewhere, you get nothing for being loyal, only stitched up!

How often have you had a cheaper alternative quote only to find your current insurer will drop their price if you look as if you are leaving them?
So why didn't they offer the cheaper price in the first place?

That is the purpose of comparison sites. It saves the PIA of phoning around to save £10 here or there.

Re: renewal car insurance

Remember car insurance have a first year membership "hook" to catch you and is a bit cheaper than if you stay with them year in and year out. So always look to see if other companies offer the same but cheaper to try and get you on their "hook" for the first year of membership
