Invasive specie

The boa constrictor in Florida was mentioned in another thread .many species have been introduced by humans and the results have been disasterous .

E.g. The cane toad in Australia
Australia has no end of introduced pests ( not even counting the human variety )
The cane toad was brought in to eat the cane beetle but found the local fauna more to its taste .

In the Uk we have lots of invaisve species some are pretty like the Munjac deer others are a disasterr like Japanese knotweed.

And the Himalayan Balsam, Muddy, that is crowding out the normal river bank/hedgerow plants. The local 'Wildlife trust' has had several purges on it - but it always comes back.

We're doing our best to get rid of invasive species but it is a slow job...

The ones that go home are ok, it's the one's that decide to put down roots that are the problem.

Re: Invasive specie

I had a great plant in my last pond, it was green all year long and provided great cover. I had the same plant for twenty years. Now it is considered invasive and I can't get one anywhere.

American Skunk Cabbage is another. It's a lovely looking plant but just takes over the whole area, plus it smells like a skunk.
