Respect.

Respect, An important part of the human condition i feel.

Respect is a positive feeling or action shown towards someone or something considered important, or held in high esteem or regard; it conveys a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities; and it is also the process of honoring someone by exhibiting care, concern, or consideration for their needs or feelings.[1][2]

Some people may earn the respect of individuals by assisting others or by playing important social roles. In many cultures, individuals are considered to be worthy of respect until they prove otherwise. Courtesies that show respect include simple words and phrases like "thank you" in the West, simple physical gestures like a slight bow in the East, a smile, or direct eye contact, or a simple handshake.

So i wonder how members feel about this, i was always told to respect my elders as a child, but i often found that this was not what i felt.

Clearly in our relationships, work, and play we will respect some and not others.

And it can change, i have no respect at all for politicians now, and i cant see this changing.

Re: Respect.

Problem is, Nom, a lot of the people that our generation automatically respected have proved themselves unworthy in their modern incarnation.

Policemen/women - used to be respected - now many are not even trusted.

Politicians - used to be respected - now they are most corrupt bunch outside of gaol!

Doctors
- have become increasingly patronizing.
Nursing - used to be a respected profession - now they are not even properly trained.

Teachers - I really looked up to my teachers and am thankful for my classical education. These days teachers swear in front of the children, smoke, flirt, are often addressed by their first names and have no idea of boundaries.

Respect has to be earned and too few know how!

Well, yyess...

A bit of a generalisation, though, I think.

I'd say that many policepersons, doctors, nurses and teachers are still worthy of our respect.

I would like to see some proof of those assertions because they fly in the face of my experience. For example, I have had several (too) long stays in hospital in recent years and never once was patronised by the doctors or felt my life was in danger from untrained nurses.
There are obviously exceptions in any field but the general demeanour is as it has always been, despite what the rabble-rousing tabloids might have us believe.

Re: Respect.

I can only show respect to individuals. Just because they hold the same positions in life, it doesn't mean they all should be judged the same!
These are ideas on how to win respect in the workplace:-

Display self-confidence. ...
Strive to complete each task and assignment on time. ...
Show humility. ...
Have patience with others. ...
Respect co-workers even if you don't like them. ...
Don't repeat workplace gossip.

Unfortunately, if you work in a team, not everybody works to the same standards & that is why I can only respect some of them.
