And only if parliament allows it, there is a no deal exit. So both candidates will have spent energy on that part of their future opponents.

I could compare our present political parties to those of a third-world tin-pot African nation in which the electorate has a choice of two parties, each of which has exactly the same policies: the subjugation of their people to the benefit of themselves!
That isn't democracy as I would define it.
