2001 A Space Odyessy

This incredible film was on BBC2 yesterday. I hope some of you managed to pick it up.

Unbelievable for its time but more importantly one of Kubrik's clever films that are packed full of hidden secrets and clues.

The opening sequences of the shuttle approaching the space station to the music of the Blue Danube have always stayed with me. Really great film.

Re: 2001 A Space Odyessy

I recorded it and I'm a third of the way through it.

I remember going to the cinema when it first came out, and being totally perplexed! I was very young, though!

It's so interesting watching it from a much more experienced perspective now, especially as I'd forgotten all the detail and minutiae.

I've been reading up on the wiki information about the film, and that's fascinating too!

It really was way ahead of its time!

Can't help feeling sorry for poor old HAL, though.

Incontestably one of the greatest films ever made.

Based on Arthur C. Clarke's short story, The Sentinel.

(Clarke was, allegedly a paedophile - just for info.)

He was gay, and in a long-term relationship, which only ended when his partner died after 30-something years, I believe.
He was buried with his partner, in Colombo.

Likewise.

I was a young teenager with a strong interest in Sci-Fi and went to see it on my own. I had no idea what was going on either but simply revelled in the amazing scenery.

Later on in life I would come to understand it better and then discover the many special clues that Kubrik put in there.

I have never seen the film at all. Sounds like I missed a good one - will try and find it on DVD.
