What on earth is an automatic boot?
The boot, or tailgate opens automatically, either through pressing the keyfob, pressing the switch underneath the tailgate ( where a handle would be) , pressing the button on the dash, or, and this is the best bit, waving your foot under the rear of the tailgate, although you get some funny looks as it doesn’t always work first time...

Good heavens! The epitome of laziness!

I find it reasonably easy to lift the latch on the boot to open it and I think I'd probably manage to live without this latest technological advance!

More to go wrong too!

Another thing I wasn't impressed with is the 'mild hybrid' gubbins which they have now included.
When you brake, apparently, some of the kinetic energy lost is used to charge the additional battery which, in turn, provides a (very slight) additional impetus to help the car set off again.
I really think I could manage without this. Again, more to go wrong!

Nevertheless, the car comes with a three-year warranty, so if any of these frills does pack up, it should be fixed f.o.c.

Ah but just imagine, you are in the car park at the supermarket, hands full of goodies for Mrs jbr, it’s pouring down , you reach your car and have to put down said goodies and get your keys out, risking getting them ruined, and face the displeasure of the mrs, when, with a simple wave of your foot, the boot automatically opens and you can place your items safely in the boot, marital harmony will be guaranteed :lol, seriously though ., it’s dead handy

Did I mention it also parks itself..?

Yes. A very valid point. Seriously.

That should please Marge, she being the one who emerges from the supermarket with hands full of goodies.

Is that standard on all models, or is it another add-on?

It came on ours, an st line 1st edition, but I think it can be added

Re: New Golf Mk8 omission

we often make people jump when we remotely open the tailgate on our Nissan Xtrail Tekna. Being able to open it remotely from quite a distance away people wonder if they had something to do with it. Seeing the look on their faces is something else.
Now that is a car worth considering, 5 cameras even produces an overhead view- auto parallel parking- even down to showing which tyre needs pumping up. so much information it is unbelievable -even about ferries and which roads to avoid in holiday season. Not just a Satnav display but also another display right infront of the driver. Impossible to mention all the information as well as remote phone answering via the steering wheel.

Even shows a digital turntable with the different car colours available
No need for the add on extras although we did go for the 7 seat version and added a towbar ,we did have a small trailer at the time
If I demo ed what the features it has would easily take up most of a morning
Of course this is top of the range model and well worth getting, doesn't make the tea though.

everything comes as manufactured. Only thing I upgraded was the SD memory card for the Sat nav obtained from a company specialising in them ,not for Nissan. Easy just take old SD memory card out and put in the new
Had a few Jap cars- a couple of Lexus RX300 SEL- 3/4 toyota Amazon- toyota 4 runner- Honda CRV and Sues Civic estate, never been let down by one of them

Those 4.2 ltr Landcruiser Amazons, what an absolute joy to drive, big powerful kings of the road. Inside so much room and comfort absolute bliss. If you never have driven or owned one you are missing a real treat.

2 of the 4 had at different times , sorry about pic quality

running costs were offset in part as business expenses

We were going to get an Audi Q7 when they first came out but the dealership said the one they had in the showroom was a demo to look and see, not to buy as they had not been able to get and stock
Also went for a BMW X5 but the dealer ship messed us about after we booked an appointment to test drive but when we got there no car available . Disgusted with their attitude from the moment we walked in to reception, couldn't care less even though we were prepared to buy for cash

Re: New Golf Mk8 omission

Yes we hired a quashqai a couple of years back, that was a tekna with the all round cameras and everything else you mentioned, it also had a panoramic opening roof and an electric sun blind, would like a pan roof or sunroof, Mrs p doesn’t like them though, speaking of Audi, I once had a van that broke down halfway up Sutton bank, ( a notorious steep hill near thirsk) a guy turned up in a Q7 with a trailer, he just hooked my van to the back of the trailer and pulled me up the hill, effortlessly, the thing was a beast mind you, 4 litres of German grunt might have had something to do with it...

Re: New Golf Mk8 omission

Some interesting cars mentioned, though I'm afraid all too big for us on two counts: money and size of our garage. I wouldn't leave our car out on the road overnight these days.

As for Japanese cars, yes indeed. Why not?
We also went to look at a Mazda 3 (next door to the VW showrooms), but that was ruled out immediately: a nice, flashy car, but the rear windows are all far too small in their eagerness to make it look sporty. We like a good all-round view.

I'd rather have a Jeep.

Did you know that they had only three forward gears?

(Actually, I've often wondered what's in those large panels along each side. Fuel?)
