Re: Bizarre thoughts
Okay ...how's this for bizarre.
A bizarre thing my mum once said.
Years ago, after observing how my mum swooned during Alan Ladd films and avidly watched every single one of them .. I asked what was so special about him
Sharing a nostalgic moment she divulged wistfully that .. there was this American during the war. Who looked like Alan Ladd.
At which all us kids turned a looked at her and I said .. Didn't you used to write to Dad during the war mum? Childhood sweethearts wasn't it?
Yes, came the reply .. but just as a penfriend, nothing more.
At which all us kids stared harder at mum and mooed our lips.
Then she said a bizarre thing we never knew ... They were going to be married, her and the American. She was supposed to have gone to America to live with his mother to see out the war safely, but Alan Ladd got badly injured in the war and they stopped writing to each other.
And then she said, rather bizarrely . .. Just think kids, if I'd gone you'd all have been born Americans.
Me been me I said ... No I wouldn't because I'm my father's daughter. Poor dad.
