Going back through our history there have been times where we must have shown great potential in the past but we as a race keep slipping back despite all the innovation and discoveries we make.
We have drugs and / or treatments available that alleviate pain and suffering for thousands yet they don't get them because they are "too expensive"!
You can imagine what an advanced species would make of that couldn't you?!
