Re: defrost

I only ever defrost the freezer when I have to. Did you leave the door open?

Re: defrost

well I know its time to defrost when theres more ice than food in the draws .

So out comes my hair dryer and a spatular ,to heat the ice and scrape it away , a bowl on the bottom shelf to catch drips and lumps of ice that comes off ,and Towels on the floor to mop up the water that escapes..
Takes about an hour .

Re: defrost

I switch off the freezer ... Take out all the food and wrap it in newspaper ... Put a thick folded towel in the bottom and one on the floor below the freezer .... Half fill all the drawers with boiling water ... close the door and let the steam melt the ice.

After about half an hour or so I check to see if the ice has loosened .. If not I replace the water with more boiling water ... When the ice has loosened I remove the drawers except for the bottom one and prise the ice off and put it into the bottom drawer so it can be poured away ... and so on .....

Any stubborn ice can be blasted with a hair dryer.
