Stainless steel

Any good ideas on cleaning a quite severely burnt stainless steel saucepan folks?

Mups try putting some biological washing powder in it and bring it slowly to the boil then leave it overnight.

Thanks Meg, I'll remember that for another time, but I don't usually use bio washing powder. I remember ages ago you saying about 'Surecare', and that's what I've used ever since.

I've got it soaking in 'Barkeepers Friend' cleaning creme at the mo, brilliant stuff. I'll see what it's like later.

It's all EZ's fault, keeping me talking.

50% water and 50% white vinegar to cover burnt area (say a cup of each)

Bring to boil

Take off heat

Throw in a heaped dessert spoon of baking soda (it will fizz like mad)

Empty and scour with stainless steel scouring pad and some baking soda as a paste (ordinary steel pad will do)

Should end up like new

My mother used to stew Rhubarb in them to clean her saucepans - she hated Rhubarb and said that was all it was good for! They did come up shiney.

Also sure fire way to stop doing it is invest in a timer, that's saved many a pan here
