The first one i put up is about 4 years old and its in a large tub ,i brought this with me when i moved in January,and i put it against a concrete washing line post supported by trellis .its made it to the top of the post .The 7 flowers that are on now are on the lower half .
I had to leave behind when i moved a lovely Blue clematis it was in the ground for a good few years and it was growing among other shrubs so rather than disturbing it ,i left it along with a Montana and several others that were rooted in the ground .
I read just last week not to feed them while in bud ,don't think it gave the reason.

It's a shame you didn't think of taking cuttings Eliza

I've got about half a dozen growing, all with their bums in the shade. One is very old (could be 20 yrs)
I have several cuttings coming on - for daughter and dil

As for feed, I use bonemeal in the spring.

I didn't, know about taking cuttings from Clematis Janela,i shall look it up on google. Thanks
