Golden Indian Bean Tree
This is starting to make a real focal point in the garden , now in it's second year and very soon will be providing a lovely shaded spot to sit out on the garden bench .
Bot name; Catalpa 'Aurea'.
The Catapla 'Aurea' is a truly beautiful ornamental specimen. It features pretty panicles of white flowers which emerge in late summer, often followed by a display of slender bean-like pods which hang pendulously. The oversized, heart-shaped leaves are a striking buttery yellow colour and make a fantastic backdrop for the floral display in summer. The fresh foliage emerges bronze and matures to dazzling yellow, before fading to a golden green colour in late summer.
Another advantage is that the leaves allow enough light through the canopy for the grass below to flourish and not turn yellow.
