Shadrach was Gennie and Chas's dad but two different mums, hence they being step-sisters.

The rape wasn't shown it was implied when she drugged him and then said she was pregnant, he knew he hadn't actively slept with her so she had done things to him when he was "asleep". Rape was mentioned several times and he nearly had a break down over it. Just because we don't see the mechanics doesn't mean it hasn't happened, if the show was after 9pm they could do more than imply and suggest but at that time of the evening they expect us to work some of it out for ourselves.At the time I was posting on ITV forums I well remember the melt down the forum went into dissecting every line, every nuance of the story. Complaints about the topic being shown at that early hour too.
