As for the commercial properties how do you know they are owned by the council ?
Private builders make oddles of money did you ever see a poor builder ?
Yes. Builders have to borrow and invest large sums of money for materials and overheads and the Banks have time limit on payments or they will foreclose on the loan making them bankrupt . Also it is difficult to get the right employees as well.
They are not all rich like Barratts

Then they should be sold to or transferred to an independent housing trust together with all liabilities.

In fact ALL social housing owned by ALL councils should be transferred out in the same way.

It must be wonderful to be in a position where you don,t care a damn about the lesser well off and those living on the bread line who cannot afford a home of their own.

I took Todgers post to mean .... Housing Trusts are better than councils at providing & managing social housing.

We have a couple of good Trusts around here that auction off dilapidated old houses, (they're in a conservation area so have to be nicely done up by the new owners), and put the money toward the building of new blocks ... suitable housing for the elderly, disabled, first-time-buyers and those who can afford to pay £500K+ on two bedrooms. Private, social & part-ownership in one block.

Re: Affordable homes

All the social housing seems to be run by housing associations now.

No one wants to pay £500k to live next door to social housing .
They may be perfectly nice people but you may get the family from hell.

And you may get a 'family from hell' in a £500,000 house.
One has only to read of disputes between well off families re; things like walls between properties, Boundary hedges, 'eyesore' extensions. etc;

It's a matter of probabilities though.

Any agro will take place in court not in the middle of the night and in the middle of the road by families of drunken or drugged up low life slobs or screaming and shouting inside their rented houses or flats while their scummy kids use the roads as playgrounds while all the time prices of privately owned property falls like crazy and credit ratings drop on the basis of post code alone.

Mixed social communities such as was the intent in the case of Milton Keynes (the very name would put decent people off) only work one way too. Rather than decent people encouraging low life to rise what actually took place is that decent people got out as quickly as they could.
