I think it originates in Taiwan but you can read all about it here:

It claims to be the largest temple in the southern hemisphere (not much competition there)

Bruce, the second picture of your tree next to the leaf is truly amazing.
I would love to really see and touch those huge roots. They are mesmerizing, so powerful.

What is the silvery/whitey stuff round the stem of the leaf please?

It has been laminated that's all. I have had it for over a decade.
