Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)
How are ya Pug.
Actually I’m glad waxing was mentioned, it gives me the chance to brag about the time I had my legs waxed in the pub to help raise funds for the children’s hospital here.
I’m glad to say my legs are still as good now as they were then, nay better because the hair never grew back again, I am now the proud possessor of a beautiful pair of smooth unblemished lily white pins, the envy all the old birds up in the local.
Paddy Losty had his beard shaved off that night, it was a great sacrifice for him as he’s had it all his adult life, rest his soul he was a very dear life long friend of mine.
Phyllis helped organise the small event, I think we raised over 2,000 quid that night. That was in 2003 I think. I have a photo somewhere but I can’t locate it at present, might be on another machine.
I have left instructions in my will that I’m to be cremated minus me legs, they are to go to the college of art in Kildare street as a model for life drawing, they will be stuffed and mounted on a Connemara marble base with an inscription on a brass plate simply saying “Jem’s Legs”
I may be gone but my legs will live on. Oh yes I love me legs, God bless ‘em, long may they carry me.
