Only in that it wasn't supersonic but this was the 1980s when it was built.

No.
There were a number of compromises - like the reduced payload capacity if VTOL was used, meaning either less fuel or less weaponry.
Reliability was a huge issue too thanks mostly to the complexity of the VTOL system.

That's not to say that it wasn't a fantastic bit of kit, because it most certainly was.
And I'm certainly not decrying the proposed new fighter either.

Oh look!

"Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps confirmed over the weekend that the European Union’s hotly contested Vnuk law will not have to be part of the British realm, as a result of the UK leaving the EU."

"In terms of the impact on motorists, the law would have translated to an estimated £50 annual increase in motor insurance costs."

There you go.
According to UK insurers themselves, Brexit has saved motorists an average of £50/year!

That's excellent news for ride-on mower, mobility scooter, etc owners not having to buy insurance - not. I fervently hope they will be forced to pay for 3rd party insurance, at least, in case their vehicles are involved in an accident.

In other news reported in today's DMail:
Five people are feared to have died and hundreds more including many children made ill after eating chicken imported from Poland that was contaminated with salmonella in the past year. Here's the article: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ed-Poland.html

It's widely reported in other newspapers too.

If ever there was a need to ban the import of EU meat and meat products, this must be it, but will whoever is in charge of this part of the DEAL be willing to do so?

That puts the EU's rejection of our shellfish into perspective!

At the risk of appearing argumentative I can safely say with hand on heart that neither I nor anybody I know has ever been attacked by either a ride-on lawnmower or a mobility scooter.

If however we had been there are options open other than compulsory insurance, although as it happens I do agree that there ought to be some sort of regulation regarding mobility scooters especially.
The thing is though that we as a country are quite capable of deciding this ourselves.

Some of the mobility scooter users in this town are lethal, Zaphod. They creep up on you and then beep their horns giving you an instant heart attack

I quite agree and I live in an area with an extremely high number of the things.
People like to retire to the seaside.

What matters though as far as legislation is concerned is that accidents would appear to be few and far between, so that it would seem that there's no real need - until something happens and public awareness forces action, if that ever arises.

Currently if you suffer an injury as the result of an incident with a mobility scooter then legal recourse is the route to take, with a number of specialist firms and no-win-no-fee companies to choose from as well as the usual.

This past year is for obvious reasons a bit of an anomoly so taking the previous year as a better example, just under 250 incidents were recorded across the whole of Great Britain in 2018 and of those 180 accidents occurred on roads.
Even if there are as has been suggested more incidents that are not reported, IMHO legislation would be like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
Many of the problems caused by these would probably be alleviated if we had enough police and if these were then more-inclined to check that the drivers of these scooters were fit to drive them.
From what I see, many are not.
IMHO again of course.
