Not another Bloody Fire???

A students accommodation in Bolton gutted by fire!
How can supposedly masonry buildings spontaneously combust
and burn out in a matter of minutes?
Luckily with no loss of life this time, the students were extremely
fortunate not to be sleeping at the time?
Is this another cladding issue?
Looking at the aftermath it does not seem so, as only the upper
floors appear affected, and look like the top floors were made
from timber and may have been added to the top in order to
increase the amount of accommodation! Maybe this will all come
out later, but we are still waiting to get responsability allocated
in the Grenfell case after more than two years, and we have heard
nothing further about the block of flats that was completely
consumed by fire in Sutton, Surrey, about 6 months ago?
And why are blocks of flats STILL clad in the proven dangerous
material that caused the Grenfell disaster?
A lot of WHYS for a lot of people??

The article I read say the building had cladding but was inspected 2 years ago and declared safe. If the fire had started lower down the building the outcome might have been much worse. The fire Brigade also sent in an extra team to clear the occupants out.

Having seen further footage of the building RC it looks as if it is
some sort of prefab construction with panels attached to a
framework, definitely NOT masonry?
All building regulations now need reviewing and resetting as it
seems like they have been doctored over several years and are no
longer fit for purpose? Especially where composite materials are
concerned!!

I suppose the problem started when they stopped building with bricks and started using lego type structures. All to save a bit of money I suppose.

Most new high rise flats/hotels and large shops use large panels of cladding as a cost effective method of putting up external walls quickly. Nothing wrong with it, providing the materials satisfy fire regs/insulation properties and are installed according to MI's.

Also, many of these panels use byproducts of the petrochemical industry which thus have a smaller carbon footprint than firing up bricks. Even Greta would be relatively appeased by them

Re: Not another Bloody Fire???

And now we get a large hotel in eastbourne almost completely
burnt out.
This building was an old style design made of l assume masonry?
So probably different factors come into play concening the reasons
for the devastating fire and why it was able to spread so quickly?
Looks like we need a complete rview of fire related rules and
regulations countrywide, and get the fire brigades put back in
control of everything again!

Re: Not another Bloody Fire???

More information on the eastbourne fire
Wtnesses report hearing what sounded like an explosion an
windows blowing outwards, so it looks like a gas problem?Perhaps
kitchen staff need less smart tech training and more basic common
sense training?
