Irate Ireland

Hi. I'm sure that someone will have answered this already, and apologise for the request to repeat yourself.

Assuming that there is a no-deal Brexit, what will actually happen along the border between Ireland and North Ireland?

I'm assuming that there will have to be custom checks. Since the UK government's proposition to resolve this seems unsatisfactory for both the EU and the ROI, what then will be the solution that, presumably, they have already prepared for in the event of a no deal?

Well Dextrous, I find that all of these Brexit threads repeat themselves to be honest....it's Groundhog Day every day in Brexitland

But to answer your question, it's been the busiest news item of the past couple of days and Boris has come up with a "plan". Whether the EU fully accept it is another matter.
Switch on your TV mate, that's the best way to find out stories on this rivettingly exciting topic where so much is happening day after day. Oh how we are all so blessed to have Brexit news constantly in our lives

Welll, the short answer is; no one knows. The only certain thing is uncertainty.

However, no deal isn’t going to happen on November 1st, because there is law preventing it. And whatever anyone thinks, and whatever BoJo may say, that law will be upheld. Probably with another court hearing or two.
And come the end of this extension period, we’ll go through the same palaver again.

As Floydy so rightly said, Groundhog Day over and over again.
Unless we get an election at some point to put us out of our misery. And let us put our failed MPs out of theirs as well.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Re: Irate Ireland

Anything going into Southern Ireland is already checked if you arrive at the airport you are checked like you are going into heathrow. If you look at many places checks are no longer done on borders they have places a few miles in land they do them, trusted traders waved through and paper work done prior to coming in.
On the actual border what we do is up to us surely and if eu wants checks the other way southern ireland will have to put them in. IMO that is why they are being so difficult they don't want to be the ones have to put the effort into the border.

Re: Irate Ireland

Thanks for your responses.

Disregarding the "it ain't going to happen" and "groundhog day" inputs, if I may, from the other appraisals it would seem that the current thought is that from NI to ROI isn't likely to be a problem, with paperwork to follow as and when requested, and it's up to the EU to work out what to do from ROI to NI which is their problem as the UK has no real problem what comes over as we're not going to be paying tariffs on it.

Meanwhile, our Dutch friend has indicated that all hell is likely to break loose with paramilitiaries letting rip as and when they deem fit, although without any real stated objective for doing so other than the usual (presumably) reunification of Ireland which realistically ain't going to happen.

Glad that's all cleared up then. Cheers.

Pretty much.

From the EU, the goods come through our territorial waters, our land or our airspace.
