Re: Hernia

Haha. Well yeah not being able to laugh was what the other half of the story was about in my case. But Floydy..yep I agree with everybody else. Get it seen to and sharpish. Take it easy. No physical activity at all really. Also your local pharmacy might be able to help you out with some kind of brace that will help support the torn muscle wall. These days the surgery will probably be a 10 minute local anaesthetic job. Not being a surgeon, not sure. Back then I had to stay off work for 6 weeks and take it easy for 6 months. That was standard and it was classed as major abdominal surgery.

Re: Hernia

I had a hernia a few years ago. Same spot as you. Right groin. It would pop out. And I could push it back in.
Operation was they fitted a sort of plastic gauze internally and stitched it up. No problems since then. Overnight stay in hospital.

Re: Hernia

Yes floydy mate...had a hernia op back in 2012 relatively straight forward however, one tip I can give you is, when you do eventually go in for the op, make sure you eat plenty of stuff to keep you regular you do NOT want to be constipated after your op...donít ask me how I know

Re: Hernia

I have had 2 hernia operations over the years. The last one was about 16 years ago. I went into hospital in the morning, the operation was early afternoon and my wife picked me up about 6 pm.

Re: Hernia

Just caught up with this, Floydy. You must be in a lot of pain - do take care not to aggravate the hernia. I hope your hospital appointment comes through fairly quickly for you!

Re: Hernia

Thanks all Some good advice there.

One question to those who have had the op:
Would I be off work for any length of time following the operation or could I go back the same day?

Hi mate.
It's definitely given me a reality check in thinking more sensibly about my fitness regime. I think I've finally realised I'm hurtling towards 60 and should be taking things more cautiously in future.
I can't turn back the clock anymore in thinking I can desperately cling onto my youth lol!
