Did any of you men ever buy those very small war comics that came out every week in the 50's early 60's? My brother had a box full of them. They were about 6in x 6in and always a war story with a hero. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of them, but he loved them and bought every one that came out.

Re: Do we really need to read the classics?

We used to love it when mum would go to the shop and get the weekly comics for my six brothers and I when we were kids. The boys would get Dandy, Beano, Topper, Lion, Tiger and one of those very small war hero comics and I would get the Mandy and Judy. always read with a Kit Kat each. Happy days.

The brother used to read Eagle, Beano and Film Fun.

I had Girl, Dandy and Radio Fun.

It took me about five years to convince Mrs LD to read it, I think the title put her off but eventually she did. One day I came in to find her in tears (that's very unusual and I was immediately trying to work out what I had done wrong THIS time). When I asked her what was wrong, she just pointed at the book. I knew exactly which bit she was reading.

I vaguely remember those Shrops but I don't think I ever read them.

I love the classics and used to read them all the time. I grew up with 'Biggles' and 'Health and Efficiency'....
