I didn't have any fault with the first picture Muddy but seeing the second ..... wow! you have certainly made the horse's eye come alive!

Brilliant work!

Re: Old painting revisited

Liked the first one, thought the second was warmer with the eye and nostril touch plus the lightening of the colour.
The small changes made it a completely different picture excellent imo.

Re: Old painting revisited

Muddy I am going to be honest with you!

The first painting didn't look right to me because I thought the horse's eyes made him look "snooty".

The changes in the second picture, especially the eyes & nose, softened his features & made him look like a horse I would be happy to be with.

I agree with Mups about the bright blue sky, but maybe a hazy green and brown tree in the background would have kept the horse as the main feature if the painting.

The first one would have been a miracle if I had painted it , but your standards & ability are much higher & I appreciate you showing us the changes. You are a good artist!

Fantastic Muddy. It is amazing how much difference working on the eye has made.

Re: Old painting revisited

Muddy, just a thought, but have you ever painted a Shire horse?

I only ask because their bodies are so different to thoroughbreds. Your paintings often show a beautiful mane and the Shire's may give you more opportunity, with their tails and around their hooves.

I love Shire horses!

Re: Old painting revisited

I especially love the eye Muddy it's a very good painting but if you don't mind my saying I would alter the mane in particular the bit at the top which is too 'neat '.
