Predicting European Weather?

In Australia we are very aware of the drivers that create our weather - basically there are four, which are, in order of importance (I think):

ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscolation)
IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole)
SAM (Southern Annular Mode)
MJO (Madden–Julian Oscillation - only affects the tropics short term really)

Does northern Europe have similar well known constant weather drivers? ie can you predict Britain's weather because of a particular condition in the Atlantic or southern France? What are they?

BTW you don't have to watch these videos though personally I find them absolutely fascinating and you will be better informed .

Re: Predicting European Weather?

Ours it seems is determined by the jet stream, mostly running out of America, depending on its track is whether we get warm or even hot weather in the summer months whilst in the winter because of the radiator full of warmish water known as the Atlantic we get relatively mild winters occasionally interspersed with cold spells with the winds from the east out of the Urals in Russia.
