I don't.

Agree. In any case, whenever one searches for anything online, this provides data for companies via cookies, which often enables them to send related ads to your search engine. Nobody knocks at anyone's door, and junk (paper) mail is reduced.

Re: A REAL Reason to Avoid a Smart Meter

I wouldn't have a smart meter as I know I can't lower my consumption of energy any further.
We have to remember that everything we buy with a debit or credit card or on line is recorded anyway. Especially now we appear to have unwittingly become a cashless society.
I don't understand why they ask for your details in restaurants etc. for contact tracing, as soon as you use a card for payment or loyalty cards, they know who you are, what you bought and where you come from. Cameras in carparks record your reg. numbers too, there's no hiding!

Re: A REAL Reason to Avoid a Smart Meter

Nobody - but nobody - is going to install a Smart meter in my home or anywhere on my property.

If I am online shopping and a site asks me to accept cookies - I come out and shop elsewhere. Apart from Amazon and Sainsbury's - they don't ask but probably add cookies anyway - so I run a 'clear cookies' programme after each transaction.

My debit card is attached to an account that used just for on-line shopping. For everything else I pay cash.

Data protection laws mean that agencies who own that data cannot share it with others. That's why they take your details in the restaurant/pub.

One day someone will work out how to hack into it. Nothing like that is secure. Plus I think we are far too reliant on wifi etc. It's just justifying a need to keep expanding a system that has limited capacity long term. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Actually, anyone can easily bypass a simple electrical meter. It doesn't require anything like that degree sophistication.
