Thanks a lot for that reply. As the crow flies, we're about 4 miles from the coast and most of the coastal villages relied on fishing. Where I lived was more diverse, but it is generally an agricultural area.

The part of the house where I found the skin was built in 1896. It seems to have been neatly wrapped and placed quite deliberately under the window.

My neighbours have found a shoe in a wall in their house ( c. 1840) and I have found quite a lot of animal teeth and bones in the walls of the original part of the house - again c.1840.
