Come to think of it I can vaguely remember reading somewhere that before the 17th century Scots themselves called themselves Scotch, especially emigrants, and they didn't mind it. It's only later they considered it derogatory and opted for Scots and Scottish. I could be wrong ..or perhaps it's just us English that honour Scots heritage.
