Re: Monday night dinner!!!

Looking at the recipe, it's a basic, very tasty, beef ragu. V's ragu uses a similar recipe.

Can be very quick but, done the way an Italian mama would do it, can take about 3hrs or so. V was taught the recipe by her bezzy who married an Italian chap.

You’re lucky. I once asked an Italian colleague to part with her recipe for Ragu and she shot me down in flames in front of other colleagues! Some people!

Excuse my ignorance, but is Ragu the same as Spag Bog?

I'm the first to acknowledge this fact, Minx. I am the luckiest man alive to have met and married the "gorjus one".

Good lord, I hadn't realised the Italians guarded their cuisine so ferociously! Or maybe it was just that particular Italian. When I come across a lovely recipe, either from somewhere else, or one I've made up, I'm more than happy to share it widely.

Yes, Tubby. If you want to live to see another day, never, ever ask for spaghetti bolognese in an Italian-run, Italian restaurant. There is no such thing as bolognese sauce in Italy, you have to ask for spaghetti al ragu. By the way, a true Italian ragu has 50% beef mince and 50% pork mince in it.
