Too many people are under the illusion that if you don’t smoke you won’t get lung cancer. There was a childless married couple who lived up the road from us in the 1990’s, neither smoked and both were in their forties, he developed lung cancer and died, three years after that she got lung cancer and died. Life is not fair by any means.
Exactly!
I'm sure I read something recently that said the majority of people diagnosed with lung cancer are non-smokers (either never smoked or gave up). People who currently smoke at the time of diagnosis are in the minority, or so I read.
My sister only smoked for 3 years (16-19) and quit when she got married to a non-smoker, and yet was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 49, 30 years after touching a cigarette.
Whereas I started smoking at 16 and never stopped, averaging around 20 a day, and a few months ago at a health check up my doctor did x-rays and said my lungs were in better condition than half the non-smokers he sees.
Not fair, not fair at all.
