School sports days.

How many of us were enthusiastic participants in school sports days.

Early days it was Three-legged, Sack, and Egg and Spoon races, did not mind these, later it got more serious, i hated the cross country run and track events, though idid not mind the Javelin and Discus .

I wasn't competitive in my youth, that came later, ive heard these days they have events that do not celebrate winning in case it upsets those that do not, if so what message is that sending. ?

Re: School sports days.

Course they celebrate winning, our school has a tradition of all the kids being placed so they might be 30th but they still get a little star but the winner is most certainly celebrated more.

We have two sports days a year here, one winter one which is a football tournament. The summer one is fun sports and a swimming tournament.

Sports was the only thing I enjoyed at school. The number of times I was allowed to miss lessons for running/football practice was brilliant.

Julie
believe it or not I was sprint champion (100 yds) out of 11 colleges and only about a second or less off the national record for kids of my age.

Now I can't even run after a beautiful young lady that is naked

it is a case now of "must not upset the children, no matter what". How are they supposed to know right from wrong, or by not putting in the effort they won't get on in the world.

I strongly believe National Service should be reintroduced for many reasons

Re: School sports days.

I see that slightly differently our school even trying you are a winner, not THE winner but a winner. When I see the little ones with difficulties trying to run I think they deserve a star for even trying. If you don't reward doing their best then they get nothing.

When Grace had her leg splints removed her first and only thought was how she would now be able to run and play with her friends, I think she deserves a star for lining up and giving it her all when we all now she will come last before she even tries.

Same all over the world trying has to count for something.

Good for Grace then trying is half the battle, and those with any difficulty must have special consideration. It is those have the capability and don't try are the problem. The schools policy, possibly from government directives, Are at fault, they are not allowed to compete- restricted on playground games., to name but 2
