Re: Is being generous really a kindness?

If I see somebody that is homeless sitting in the street looking half dead, I'll usually give them a couple of bucks. If somebody says to me"But how do you know they're not going to spend it on drugs/ alcohol/cigarettes etc etc!".."How do you know they are really homeless!?"..I don't really care. IT's my two bucks. IT's up to me and me only if I decide to give it to somebody in the street. IT's nobody else's place to judge me. I don 't know that person's history any more than all the other passers by do. Would a person who had a home live in the street by choice? My attitude is there but for the grace of fate go I. I don't want a medal or a ticket to Heaven. I have no comment about those who don't give or care. I don't need to be labelled "generous". I just like to think that if I was in their place somebody would give a damn about me. THat's all.

Re: Is being generous really a kindness?

I don’t think it’s that simple in the Uk at least Keezoy .
A lot of people are on the street because they have issues .
They may not even be really homeless .
There are no people on the street where I live but if you go to the cities you will see them .
Some look very rough and in many ways intimidating.
I would not approach them .
When I live in South America I often saw people on the street .
It was very distressing some were crippled and there were lots of small children .
Now I am able too I donate directlg to charities that support these children .
These were truly poor people .
In the uk everyone has something .
Even the peopele living on the streets have some sort of benefits and there are shelters but people don’t always want to used them .
At the moment the government is paying for them to live in hotels .
So they are alright .
The tax payers and More specifically today’s children will pay for all this for decades to come .

Re: Is being generous really a kindness?

So what? If there were no foodbanks people would just have to manage with the free money they already get.

For those that really can't manage then the obvious solution is the introduction of a modern form of houses of industry incorporating communal living with work to offset the costs where possible and if anyone reads that as a modern workhouse then yes. Precisely.

I have often thought this In a kindly and humane form would be a solution .
Many people on the streets can not cope they are not able.
Care in the community is not working .

Hi

The statements today do not help those most in need.

50% off meals out will not help those who cannot even afford to buy the basics.

They cannot even afford the phone calls to claim the Benefits.

Surely those in most need, depends on the opinion of the person saying they are in the most need?
If they go to the benefits office & explain they don't even have enough money for a phone call, are you suggesting that they offer no alternative?
There must be an alternative as not everybody has use of a phone!
