He's not too keen on democracy, then? Parliament should override what the people want. Well, isn't that what they have been doing for the past three or more years?

I'm sure that's the case in respect of most of our politicians these days. They all have their snouts in the trough and have 'interests' in the EU. That's why we weren't out immediately after the referendum result.

Re: Heseltine comes out against Brexit

Yes, people such as Heseltine, Ken Clarke, Amber Rudd and their ilk, having had their legs well and truly tucked comfortably under the EU table for many years, must have had the vapours when they heard the result of the Referendum!
One could probably have heard their gnashing and wailing all the way ''oop north''. The mere thought that their 40 year gravy-train ride could be really over, must have been devastating for them. I would even place a bet that the first thought that DIDN'T run through their greedy, selfish minds was ''why did the people vote that way?''.

For decades, Remain politicians, especially those ensconced in London constituencies, have been happily living on another planet far removed from the lives of ordinary people in the rest of the country. Outside of the capital, we probably didn't exist for them. They have never known or even cared how the rest of the country's population fared through 11 years of austerity since 2008. As long as their lucrative little lives were unaffected, all was fine.

They can't say they weren't warned! For years before the referendum, unrest about the EU was coming ever nearer to the fore, Cameron being sent back home with his tail between his legs was the catalyst that has brought us to what is happening today.

That will teach them. True democracy has been the benchmark of Great Britain for centuries, and it belongs to the people, not ambitious MP's working against their own country, not MP's having secret meetings with foreign countries against their own government, not MP's again betraying their own government by working with opposition parties and the EU, whilst all the time doing their best to overturn the democratic decision of the British people.

In future, those despicable MP's who have not already been put out to pasture - good riddance - would do well to remember what has happened, and how we fought back.

Good post, SG.

This cannot continue indefinitely. People will not stand for it and the more they continue to treat us this way, the more likely some sort of serious response will occur.

We still have democracy to some extent: the right to vote for our leaders. Somehow, I cannot imagine that being lost to us, though continued membership of the EU could lead to it becoming completely meaningless.

Voting only for MEPs in Brussels is no more than a charade in that such 'leaders' possess absolutely no power. It keeps the voters happy and makes them think they have some sort of choice.

The fact that they condemn Labour is just a smoke screen for their own shortcomings and the fact that in the past, they have made some serious misjudgements when they were in charge.

Heseltine is no more the easy going, nice old grandfatherly figure, than Corbyn. As a hard headed businessman the only interests he represents are his own.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

Negative Growth, what an oxymoron.
