Are the dingoes native to ozzie Brucy? And dont they have an
effect on controlling deer numbers or are they too small?
Also could you not start a venison industry?
The meat is very low fat and excellent eating, plus the animals
need very little maintenence other than fencing to keep them in
reserved areas?
A business oportunity for someone maybe?

Re: Deer fights back

A dear friend who lived in the Highlands of Scotland, told me a couple of years ago that when she was driving along one of the remote roads up there, a huge Stag ran into the road right in front of her.
He then ran off, leaving her shaken but uninjured, but with her car written off.

As it happens dear Assman I am very fond of venison and my son in law used to keep me well supplied from the feral deer on his parent's property. There are deer, emu, croc farms but people here like their beef.

As for whether dingos affect deer numbers, I have no idea if they do but they are not very effective because deer numbers are increasing.

Perhaps you guys are not eating enough venison then Brucy, it
seems to me that humans are the main factor on this planet for
Causing decline in wild animal numbers worldwide, due mainly to
our habit of commercialing food supplies by first removing wild
herds, which are FREE for the taking, and replacing them with
domesticated animals which BELONG to somebody and therefore
have a price on them!
Unfortunately that requires huge tracts of land to accomodate and
substantial infrostructure to manage them, and to distribute the
products!
This all leads to eventually to loss of habitat etc, etc?
It makes sense therefore to encourage hunting of non native wild
animals and for ozzies to take advantage of some virtually free
protein untill the so called vermin are eliminated?
This would also give ozzies some healthy exercise and encourage
them to leave their vehicles and venture into the interior of your
beautiful country as well!

Just seen your distribution maps Brucy, for which l thank you!
And it seems to be a very small problem limited to the more
populated areas?
BTW wild animals are only destructive to habitat when living in
restrictive conditions or when in conflict with farmers!

I agree with that.
We take what is theirs, then wonder why they fight back!

Exactly Mups! I lived in the forest on the southern end of Africa
for 17yrs and we had large troops ( up to 150 or more) of Chakma
baboons roaming in the area, sometimes on our roof!
But l accepted that we were the intruders and eventually found
a way to evict them when required by using chinese crackers which
harmed nothing!
I also learned a lot about baboon society, and thus human society
as well?
