Re: Radio controlled boats, planes, and cars.

When I obtained my spitfire, I flew it a few times then I sold it.
It was a handful and I felt that it would not be long before I did damage. Those warplanes look good in the air.
Those Extras are fast. One of the guys that flew with us had one. It was only flown a few times. Expensive mess.

Re: Radio controlled boats, planes, and cars.

We have a couple of warbirds, a new Hurricane awaiting a set of Retracts, and an 80" span Mosquito twin about 50% complete, when I get back tomorrow I will put a couple of photos on.

Re: Radio controlled boats, planes, and cars.

It has narked me, but the recommended engine for this Extra was purchased at the same time as the plane (a DLE 30cc petrol unit).
For this to sit right 30mm has to be removed from the extended firewall, this is not a problem in itself, but, you should not have to start carving up a new item to fit a recommended part. On the plus side, it makes it easier to fit the engine standoffs accurately which I will do today, should have a photo of the completed thing by the weekend.

Petrol? I did not think that they still used them. Glow or electric.

Re: Radio controlled boats, planes, and cars.

Petrol is more popular than ever, this DLE 30cc was £145.00, a comparable Glow Engine would be £300.00 plus, also, the petrol/two stroke mix is much cheaper than Nitro, but you need to use different fuel tubing.
The Standoffs have now been fitted, I have had a beer so I will leave grafting the shortened firewall extension back on till tomorrow.

Just inherited an IPhone, lets see what I can do in the morning (with a bit of assistance).

See if this works

30mm was removed from the firewall extension and reboxed inside, trial fitted the cowl and it's perfect.

That looks good, but how secure is the mount to the firewall?
