Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Great film One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest with Jack Nicholson at his finest

It was apparently filmed on location at Oregon State Mental Hospital and dozens of the patients at the hospital were drafted in as extras.

Considering where is was being shot things didn't always run smoothly and on one infamous occasion a patient jumped out of a third-floor window which had been left open by the film crew.

The following day, a waggish newspaper ran the headline: "One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest".

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Methinks I should have named this thread "The Cuckoo's nest" they fly in and out of it all the time, or maybe the "The frying pan" for scribblers who like to fly off the handle now and then.
Seriously, it great to see you all in good form.

I was wondering if other animals besides us use a form of mathematics? I mean there are millions of different species on this planet and they all have to make homes for themselves, how do they calculate the measurements? Can they count for example?
Take the animal we probably know best, the dog, suppose Fido discovered a treasure of buried bones in a garden, he stuffs himself until he can eat no more, six bones are left in the hole. He wants to keep three for himself for later and let his best mate Rover have the other three so he digs another hole to hide his own three bones in. He goes back to his pal Rover and tells him where he found the stash of goodies, Rover finds them and eats them. I know dogs eat better food than just bones so bones are just by way of example, easier to count as well, I could have used minced meat, that would really confused them.
If that actually happened it would prove that Fido could not only add but also divide.

Awaits Pugs moon landing instructions.

Actually Jem-if you were to study the construction of a honeycomb,or watch the construction of it,you'd see both mathematical prowess AND the understanding of how to erect a structure to it's maximum capacity using the minimum of materials...all whilst utilising working time and workers to premium, that the hive be ready for use in the fastest and most efficient way possible. So,we humans have devised methods of sharing/division of 'spoils' that tend to favour the 'sharer'...whereas the humble bee is truly socialist in both sharing AND division of labour when utilisation of limited space/means/workforce is required....good stuff,eh?
Just mebbe we humans should observe 'n' learn...

dear Pugsie - I wish to erect my structure to it's maximum capacity - can I use the method described above??

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

I've been hearing stories of your erection-apparently it's 'disappointing'?

So whack it with a large hammer until it's flat - then remember when having another try at an erection of 'honeycomb' [you DIRTY beast!] nature, that only the outside is singular in containment,so it needs to be stiff...all other internalisations are shared, thus have support from all sides to stay in position. See?
