If I Asked You For Quid For A Cup Of Tea? Would You Hand One Over?

Just testing your kindness. Or, would you be cruel to be kind and tell me nicely... No way!

I knew someone who was in a cafe and was short of a pound. He cheekily went up to a table of people and asked if they could give him a pound.

Everyone on that table and others in the cafe offered or handed over a pound!

I am not talking about beggars here but someone who genuinely needed a pound.

Sorry, Bratti. I should have realised members in other countries wouldn’t know.

It’s a monetary coin, or a pound made up of loose change.

Yes, I would offer if the person was not a beggar or similar. I was once without any money as I had overlooked to pick it up before cycling to the swimming pool. There an adult was good enough to offer to pay my entrance fee, he wouldn't let me make arrangements to repay it and I haven't forgotten that. I was about 12 years' old at the time, many decades ago.

A 'quid' is a £1 coin, that used to be a £1 note at one time many years' ago.

Of course I would, Art; in fact, I would give you enough for a sandwich and a nice cream bun besides.

PS. Sorry to hear about your financial situation.

Ahhh thank you both. So a quid is similar to our Canadian toonie which is equal to a dollar.

Definitely. And I would probably get a cuppa for myself and buy us both a cake, then sit together and have a natter

Absolutely Arty, I once helped to pay for a ladies shopping when she came up short at the till in Tesco and started to take items out of her trolley. I was behind her in the queue and we'd have been there all day if I hadn't...

Baz, It’s funny how you never forget someone’s kindness towards you.... especially a stranger.
They didn’t need to help you but they went out of their way to help you, when others would just pass you by.
