Ah I've heard others say it like that Tiffany

I had an A level student once who studied the works of Janet Blumenthal
Even though I kept correcting her with Blue-men-tarl (like the chef) she insisted on calling her Blue-menthol!!

I believe you're correct, Rhian.

Blumenthal looks like it is of German extraction, and 'thal' in German is definitely pronounced 'tarl', not 'thol'.

Blumen = flowers
Thal = valley
