Spain Threatens Boots on the Ground in Gibraltar

I wondered when this would happen.

We gave up Hong Kong so maybe Gibraltar should be given back to Spanish. Do we have the resources to defend it, it's strategic location the main reason UK wants to keep control.

Re: Spain Threatens Boots on the Ground in Gibraltar

It's just another bit of EU bullying (maybe as a push towards agreement re: NI) that is doomed to failure, as most of the EU's bullying recently has also failed.

I know it's from The Express but it does sum things up:
"Mr Picardo then said: “No one should believe that we would ever be prepared to accept the things set out in the EU’s draft negotiating mandate.

“We will not even be prepared to accept things that are close to that. But the notion that Spanish law enforcement officers might be present on our land, at our port or airport, is one that the Government or the people of Gibraltar will not accept.

“That is not something that can be finessed or negotiated. That is a non-negotiable red line.

“I have said so throughout this process and I will not change my mind or my position. The Cabinet as a whole will not change the position of Gibraltar.

“Anyone who wants to argue against that or think that they can negotiate around it are driving this process into a brick wall.”

https://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...Fabian-Picardo

The EU are getting worse recently; not content with trying to bully the UK they're trying (and also failing) with Poland & Hungary too.
The EU seem hellbent on either self-harm or upon self-destruction IMHO.

There goes the EU (Spain) breaking International law again.

We really should deal with these tossers once and for all.

Cinders,

When you look at the strategic position of Gibraltar on something like Google Earth, you might realise why it became so important to us way back in time.

There are only two routes, by sea, to the UK, from the east.

One is to go around the Cape, the other is to go through the Med.

The Med is the best - that's why it's so important to us.

One of two things will happen:
1. War (evens)
2. Boris will back down (10-1)

Seriously, if the EU Army decides to step in and seize the territory, won't they be in breach of international law?

And if so, will we then be at war with the EU?

I wonder on whose side America will come in.

Three things.
3. Common sense prevails and the original agreement as decided between Gibraltar, Spain and the UK is formalised and enforced.
